But this is pretty good. And people say Simon Cowell is heartless.
BoxerFanatic, troublesome iconoclast.

I couldn’t stand Idol and most of these shows. They aggrandize the judges, and highlight people making fools of themselves, and later on they highlight cult of personality more than people with legitimate talent.
AGT.... I’ve actually been watching it since half way through last season, and I can actually enjoy some of it.
They still have a few examples of ridiculousness, but not much. They still highlight the judges, but no more than enough to add some interest.
They spend a lot of time highlighting people who have great auditions, and then develop further through the following rounds.
The army acapella quartet from last night’s show, and the violinist kids have been really good. I really liked the violinist from last season as well.
I still get annoyed by the manufactured drama of who is going to get sent home in the elimination stages... but nothing is going to change that production choice. They make every round seem like a long drawn out dramatic success or failure moment.
I keep saying ... “only one person wins the whole thing... EVERYBODY else goes home, it isn’t a failure, it just isn’t the #1 spot.”
I thought Simon Cowell was an egomaniac before... maybe he is, but he seems like a thoughtful and knowledgeable, and genuine guy... he just doesn’t pull punches for politeness sake.
Terry Crewes as the host is fun, too.
